What to do when someone dies
When a loved one passes away, there are important steps to take depending on where the death occurs. We understand this is a difficult time, and we are here to guide and support you through the process.

At Home
If the death occurs at home
- If the deceased was under a doctor’s care, contact their GP or doctor to confirm the death.
- If they were not under medical care, phone 112 or 999 for emergency services, and the Gardaí may attend as a formality.
- Once the death is certified, contact us to make arrangements.
In Hospital
If the death occurs in hospital
- Inform the hospital of your chosen funeral director.
- The hospital staff will handle the necessary paperwork and notify the funeral director if needed.
Hospice / Nursing Home
If the death occurs in a hospice or nursing home
- Inform the facility of your chosen funeral director.
- The hospice or nursing home staff may contact the funeral director on your behalf.
Abroad
If the death occurs in another country
- Contact your local funeral director immediately.
- We can assist with repatriation to bring your loved one home and liaise with funeral services in the country where the death occurred.
Who to Notify
- A funeral director to begin arrangements.
- Family and close friends.
- Employer (of the deceased and any family members needing time off).
- Solicitor or accountant if there are legal matters to manage.
Arranging a Funeral
Each funeral is unique, and we are here to support you in making the necessary decisions with care and sensitivity. We will:
- Arrange transportation and care for the deceased.
- Liaise with the church, crematorium, or cemetery.
- Assist with floral arrangements, music, and personal tributes.
- Guide you through obtaining the Death Certificate and other required documents.
